Here at Evan Woo Breast & Plastic Surgery, we provide holistic care to patients with breast cancer. Every patient is unique, and we believe in a personalised approach in mapping out the treatment journey.
This treatment journey starts with diagnostic tests to get a better understanding of the patient’s condition. Our practice has access to the latest imaging modalities and we work hand in hand with leading breast imaging specialists for a thorough investigation. This ensures accuracy in diagnosis and aids in our treatment planning.
With the necessary information, a detailed discussion about the treatment plan can be carried out. We work closely with each patient to determine the best treatment options for their individual situation, taking into account cancer stage, lifestyle and occupation.
Surgery is central to the treatment of breast cancer. Dr Woo prides himself in offering all possible surgical options, ranging from localized cancer removal to breast removal and reconstruction.
Surgery to remove the cancer can be grouped into 2 main methods:
Lumpectomy: Otherwise known as breast-conserving surgery. This involves the removal of the cancer and a small amount of the surrounding breast tissue only.
Mastectomy: This involves the removal of all of the breast tissue. This procedure is appropriate for women with multiple or large areas of cancer, and for women seeking prophylactic mastectomies.
In certain cases, women may be advised during the discussion to undergo chemotherapy prior to surgery (neoadjuvant chemotherapy). Good examples are women with large tumours which can be shrunk with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, so that a lumpectomy with radiation therapy need only be performed instead of a total mastectomy.
An integral part of the discussion is breast reconstruction and other operative strategies for attaining the best possible aesthetic outcomes after treatment.
As one of a handful of surgeons in Singapore with expertise in both oncoplastic breast surgery and microsurgical breast reconstruction, Dr Woo understands that the ideal treatment outcome means both a complete removal of cancer and a good aesthetic outcome.
We consider it our commitment to offer our patients an integrated and comprehensive breast surgery practice.
